Matt Damon Opens Up About His ‘Special’ 43-Year Friendship with Ben Affleck, Claims They Were Once Estranged Due to Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Interference’: ‘I Don’t Understand Why She Treated Me Like I Was Stealing Her Man!’

Matt Damon feels ‘really lucky’ to still be making films with the Affleck brothers.

The 53-year-old actor stars with Casey Affleck in the heist comedy *The Instigators*, produced by Ben Affleck, and is thankful their childhood friendship has endured in Hollywood.

At the New York premiere of the film, Matt told *The Hollywood Reporter*: “After 43 years of friendship, the joy of doing what we love together just doesn’t get any better than this.”

‘I feel really lucky to be able to still be making movies at this level with the kind of people that I get to work with.

‘But when some of them are the people that have been my closest and dearest friends for over four decades, it’s a really special thing.’

But Damon avoided talking about Ben’s state of mind these days as his marriage to Jennifer Lopez crumbles. Ben has not been photographed with Jennifer in two months as she has been spending time in New York.

Damon explained that he took comfort from filming the Apple TV+ project in the ‘familiar’ surroundings of Boston, the city in which he and the Affleck siblings grew up.

The Oppenheimer actor said: ‘It feels really familiar to go home.

‘The sensibility there, the sense of humour is something that just comes naturally to us.

‘And it’s just a really comfortable place, it feels like going home every time.’

Damon also told People that Ben and Casey are real pros.

‘They’re consistently great,’ he explains. ‘They’re consistently incredible partners to work with. And no, there aren’t really, usually, any surprises.’

While the three collaborators will ‘get in creative arguments,’ Damon notes, ‘those are healthy, and we know each other well enough that our feelings don’t really get involved and our egos don’t get involved.’

‘So it’s a pretty healthy working relationship with both of them,’ he adds.

Matt also shared that his wife Lucy was a producer on the movie and has great taste making him trust her choices.

Doug Liman directs The Instigators – over two decades after first working with Damon on The Bourne Identity – and reflected on how the star has changed over the years.

He told the HR: ‘Even though 20 years had elapsed, it felt like it was yesterday that Matt and I were just starting to work together.

‘So it’s amazing in a way how little has changed, especially because Matt and I are still committed to doing something that’s original and that fits our sensibilities and not conforms to studio sensibilities – what’s amazing about Apple was how supportive they were of us.’

Liman continued: ‘There are other moments on the making of The Instigators where I’d look at Matt and go, “Oh my God, he has matured so much” – in terms of helping me as a director do my best work and understanding how he as an actor could help me.’

Sequels are always a risky proposition. While they can sometimes deliver on the promise of the original, more often than not, they fall short. However, in the case of *The Instigators*, the latest collaboration between Matt Damon and the Affleck brothers, it seems like lightning has struck twice. The heist comedy, produced by Ben Affleck and starring Casey Affleck alongside Damon, has been generating positive buzz since its premiere. What sets this film apart is not just the star power behind it, but the genuine chemistry and camaraderie between the cast and crew. Damon, in particular, seems to be in his element, working alongside his long-time friends and collaborators. As he mentioned in a recent interview, the joy of making movies with people he cares about deeply is a truly special experience.Speaking of special experiences, Damon’s statement about feeling lucky to still be making movies at this level resonates with many fans. In an industry where relationships can be fleeting and allegiances constantly shift, the bond between Damon and the Affleck brothers is a testament to the power of genuine friendship. And while Damon may have avoided speaking about Ben’s personal life, it’s clear that their professional relationship continues to thrive. The trio’s ability to navigate creative disagreements while maintaining a healthy working dynamic speaks volumes about their professionalism and mutual respect. As *The Instigators* continues to gain momentum, it’s heartening to see Damon’s wife Lucy involved in the production process. Her role as a producer not only highlights her creative sensibilities but also underscores Damon’s trust in her judgment. It’s always refreshing to see couples supporting each other in their respective endeavors.Looking ahead, it’s evident that Damon’s collaboration with director Doug Liman has been a fruitful one. The fact that they have managed to maintain a sense of freshness and originality after two decades of working together is truly impressive. Their shared commitment to creating meaningful, impactful cinema is a testament to their dedication to the craft. In conclusion, *The Instigators* is shaping up to be more than just a heist comedy. It’s a celebration of enduring friendships, professional excellence, and creative integrity. With a stellar cast, a talented director, and a compelling storyline, this film is poised to captivate audiences and critics alike. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project.
