Revealing the gestures of Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford during their last appearance together before the divorce surprised audiences, as it turned out they had hinted at the separation right from that day.

With the rumour mill in overdrive since the ‘shock’ statement confirming their divorce, we look at the relationship timeline of TV’s once ‘power couple’

Television’s ‘power couple’ Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes officially announced their separation in May 2024.

With the once golden couple’s marriage deemed to be ‘rock solid’ the news shocked many, with the couple now said to be seeking a divorce after 14 years of marriage.

The TV presenters, who are both 64, met in 1997 through a mutual friend, television presenter, Sally Meen.

In 2010, they married in a star-studded ceremony covered by Hello! magazine at The 19th Century Elvetham Hotel in Hampshire, South East England.

Langsford wore a Swarovski-studded bridal dress in what was called by the publication a ‘moving’ wedding where both were ‘emotional’. Now emotions and tensions are running high for different reasons, as the couple prepares to face a lengthy, costly divorce battle, 14 years after both saying ‘I do’

The couple released a statement on 25 May 2024 via their representative who said: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.” The couple, who live in Surrey, have been the subject of many rumours in the industry following a lack of joint appearances since 2022.

The last known event the pair were pictured at was in July 2022 for the TRIC Awards at London’s The Grosvenor House Hotel. According to many in the media, ‘the signs were there’, with neither posting images of the other on their Instagram accounts, which they have both been active on, since 2022.

Their last social media post, to Instagram, was of the couple at her Feeling Fabulous event in July 2022. Their ‘shock’ split in May came only days after Ruth revealed her fears that Eamonn might never ‘100% recover’ after his back surgery.

The Irish presenter had suffered from chronic back pain for almost two years. The surgery led to him having to take four months off work towards the end of last year to recover.

The couple became well known after hosting This Morning together for 14 years, beginning their on-screen relationship nine years into their own in 2006. Langsford had been hosting the programme since 1999 when Holmes joined her, making her the longest-serving presenter the show has ever seen.

In 2019 she told OK! magazine “Everyone knows if you have to work with your partner it’s not the easiest thing to do, but we’re alright most of the time.” The duo became a firm fixture on the nation’s TV screens, before being dropped and replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary in 2020.

The reason behind their decision to divorce has not yet been made public, with the couple yet to speak out on social media. It’s been claimed that the relationship breakdown is due to work commitments taking their marriage “in different directions”.

Their representative said the presenters are “determined to stay friends and keep things amicable.” The couple are parents to son Jack, 22, while Eamonn also has sons Declan, 35, Niall, 31, and daughter Rebecca, 33, from his previous 11-year marriage to Gabrielle Holmes.
